So you're worried about the Big A, or the North Korean bombs? Sorry everyone, Japan is the one that has likely screwed us all.
by fulltimestudent inheard much lately, about the fukushima nuclear disaster in japan?.
that is until earlier today when i found this article from last year, with dr. helen caldicott discussing the chernobyl disaster and fukushima.
she believes fukushima is uncontrollable and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it.. read the article: .

My initial impression of this woman and her discussion is that while she no doubt has some great points, she also borders on a bit of conspiracy. She calims the USA used Uranium in Fahlujah (sp?). To what end exactly? She said 80% of babies are being born with monster deformities, and the officials are saying to not have children, and that childhood cancer has gone up by a factor of 12x. I can't really find anything to corroborate that. 40% of Europe is radioactive? That statement is pretty ridiculous if you have half a brain.
I don't know about this one. Is the damage from Fukushima more likely worse than we think or are told? I don't think that is a stretch. Should we all "begind to panic, crack open each others heads, and feast on the goo inside?" (Simpsons reference)......"Yes Kent I think we should!"
But not really.

The persecution complex is strong. Apparently if you don't accept a rainbow bracelet.....you will be yelled at by strangers and forced to declare marriage is between a man and a woman!
Unbelievable.

What Do You Think of The News Media?
by minimus ini used to pretty much believe anything they would report.
now, though, i find myself questioning “journalists “, with the realization that much of what is said may be inaccurate or slanted..

I think there are good journalists, and bad ones. I think the major networks are basically entertainment for their fan base. Fox news cares only about feeding its ring wing old white people viewers. MSNBC cares only about feeding its left wing liberal base. I can't stand either one.
But I still want to know whats going on int he world (and then I can draw my own personal conclusions). So I will sometimes listen to NPR int he AM, and some other shows on public radio (the world, A-1, Radiolab). I also like VIce a lot.

FMF,
I went back and re-listened. He asks "I want to know how your stance on ISIS is going to help Canadians in nay way." Then he goes onto ask how 10-15 years from now how letting people with an opposing ideology is going to look for his daughter.
It seems clear to me that the second and longer question out of the 2, is referring to Islamic refugees...not ISIS terrorists. In fact, I realize you are attempting to make it look like this is some sort of pro-terrorist platform, but that is simply disingenuous when you read what is actually going down up there brotha.
https://globalnews.ca/news/3889240/liberals-isis-fighters-canada-open-arms/
https://globalnews.ca/news/3733536/isis-member-returns-to-canada-toronto-man/
That being said, I think you have a legitimate point. There should be concern. But look at that second article. Is T right that someone like this could be a powerful voice for integration, and against radicalism?
Canada hasn't had a ton of terrorism, but the largest one last year was a white nationalist killing Muslims in a mosque. In defense, i think a lady with a hijab hit a cop with a golf club, and a militant Canadian national was arrested after threatening to bomb a city. None of these people were from ISIS in any way.
Its just not as black and white as you are attempting to place it. Not by a long shot.

Is Trump Doing Better Than You Thought As President!
by minimus ini know that some here detested him while others may have simply accepted the reality of who is president.. do you think he is better than you might have thought as a president?.

He's pretty much exactly what i expected. A shill. Takes credit for the good, blames the bad on someone else. Sort of just does as directed by the people he considers the most important or influential. Constant campaigns and rallies, while things I felt that could have been of note from his platform (like the frst 100 day promise to impose term limits on congress, and reform K st interactions post serving in office), have been utterly abandon and wiped.
Pretty much on target for what I expected.

Come on guys. Respectfully, the question posed to T and the answer do not in any way suggest he is talking about terrorists being tolerated or let into the country. You can't be that easily manipulated because of the need for bias confirmation.....can you?
He is talking about followers of Islam looking for refugee status. Good on him for taking the question of this man, and others, who have their own legitimate concerns. Can you imagine the president of our country courageously doing the same, through the heckles, hard questions, and otherwise?
I think we know the answer.
As far as "mankind" vs "peoplekind".......seems a bit over the top. But....is that really even newsworthy? Guys just trying to be inclusive. Where is the scandal?

Sign of apostasy
by Ireneus inelders arranged a sort of informal visit by a more capable elder accompanied by another brother who is more qualified than me from academic background.
their purpose was to reason with me as a last resort to avoid a jc.. during the two-hour discussion, i could make my point clear to them: “i don’t think any one particular religion has the whole truth.
it may be existing as bits and piece in all religions and schools of thought.

There is a couple that totally opened my mind on this. They got out mentally together. Took some time, but they were on the same page. Their teenage children they worked on, and finally the entire family is on the same page.
They simply told the elders...."guys we have decided not to attend meetings anymore for matters of conscience. We are not disassociating ourselves, nor will we be discussing the reasons why we have made this decision. Thanks for respecting our privacy."
Inevitably......people and especially elders NEED to know WHY. But they just stay on that message. End of story. No extra language. "We simply decided to no longer attend, and don't wish to discuss why. We know where you are at if we need you."
It was absolutely brilliant in its simplicity. The elders could literally do nothing at all. The "gotcha" phrases like "so you don't want to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses anymore"? or "Do you still believe Jehovah is using the FD&S?"........can be ignored. You simply would reply...."I didn't say that", and then just repeat, "We simply decided to no longer attend, and don't wish to discuss why. We know where you are at if we need you."
It works.

Immigration is not what you think it is...for a reason
by TerryWalstrom inif somebody knocks on your door and wants to enter your home (for whatever reason) you are faced with a decision process based, in part, on your ability to suss out why you do or do not allow entrance.. agreed?example:.
"i'm being stalked by a madman--please let me hide inside" would be a strong emotional reason.
""i'm with a group of jehovah's witnesses, we want to brainwash you.

I think that is a total reasonable response. We want people to knock, and ask to come in. We decide who does and does not.
However, the analogy of the person in your bedroom already doesn't fit. We are talking about families that have been here for 30 years. Our communities do not benefit by ripping the patriarch out of a 3 child household. This is easily verifyable. I find most people sort of agree on the following.....and it really seems like enough.
1) Increase border security permanently, leveraging our technology......but not building a wall costing 40B.
2) Deport criminals with the full cooperation of all agencies. Period. Have an agreement with Mexico to extradite and imprison THERE, not here. We can even contribute to that initiative (and still save money as opposed to incarcerating ourselves)
3) Give the DACA kids a path to citizenship that isn't burdened with red tape and fees. Get them in the system, and have a line for their parents already here. Do this for the sake of stabilizing the communities and families.
4) Adjust how our visa system works. Refugee? Lets be a society of compassion....but smart about it. Want to visit family? Need a return ticket, and a way to properly track you. (this is how most immigrants illegally migrate here.....NOT the southern border) Want permanent residency or citizenship because of a job? Lets do it.
5) Streamline a guest worker program, not letting people be abused, and giving wages that can be meaningful back home. No "slavery" like what happened in Florida with people being beaten, unpaid, and treated sub-human.
6) Reach out to our southern neighbor on common ground, and have Mexico be our ALLY again, rather than denigrate them, and make them defensive.
I mean......is it that hard? Don't people on all sides already agree in principle on these things? Why can we not do it?

That sums up this memo. No context.
